The RS/6000 Model B50 system has a mix of performance and features optimized for Internet Service Provider (ISP) needs, with a RISC-based PowerPC 604e processor running at 375MHz and 128MB of main memory, expandable to 1GB. A 1MB Level 2 cache further boosts performance for applications which rely on high-speed memory access. The AIX 4.3.3 operating system enhances the B50 server by delivering some of the most powerful networking features in the industry.

For expansion, the Model B50 provides two 32-bit PCI slots and two front-accessible bays for storage which support a choice of 9.1GB, 18.2GB or 36.4GB disk drives. An additional internal disk bay is available via special order. Diskette and 32X CD-ROM drives are included in the base configuration.
