The IBM 7208-011 is a 5.0-GB external 8-mm tape drive with a sustained data transfer rate of 500 KB per second. Model 011 features data- compression hardware using an adaptation of IBM's Improved Data Recording Capability (IDRC) which provides an effective capacity of up to 10 GB per cartridge and an effective transfer rate of 1 MB per second, depending on the type of data transferred. These additional function and enhancement capabilities are for the RS/6000 POWERstation/POWERserver* 200, 300, 500 families of machines and the POWERstation 730. Is an external stand-alone tape-drive device.

The model 011 is supported on all 200, 300, and 500 families of RS/6000* POWERstation/POWERserver* machines and the POWERstation 730.
