- The IBM 7208-002 is a 2.3-GB external 8-mm tape drive. It provides
additional function and enhancement capabilities to the Application
System/400* (AS/400*) B, C, D, E, and F except D02 and E02 via the Removable
Media Device Attachment feature (#2621). Alternate IPL is not supported
on 9402-D04 and D06 and 9404 B, C, D10, and D20 models. Attachment to
AS/400* 9406 B models is via Magnetic Storage Device feature (#2611)
using RPQ 841990 and OS/400* Version 2 Release 2. Alternate IPL is not
supported on 9406 B models. Is an external stand-alone tape-drive device.
- Attaches via SCSI cable.
- Uses an SCSI interface for attachment to RS/6000 (7208 models 001,
011, and 341), or uses a differential SCSI interface for attachment
to AS/400 (7208 models 002, 012, 222, 232, 234 and 342).
Model Description 7208-002
The IBM 7208 Model 002 is an external, stand-alone, SCSI, 8-mm streaming
cartridge tape drives. It features a media capacity of up to 2.3GB per
cartridge and an instantaneous data transfer rate of 245KB per second.
Its large storage capacity provides for unattended save/restore capability
and archiving functions. Shelf life of the tape data cartridge is estimated
to be four years. Reliability of the tape data reads/restores is enhanced
through the use of Error Correction Code (ECC) function.
The media kit for model 002 contains one test cartridge, one blank data
cartridge, and one cleaning cartridge.
One media kit is included with each model of the 7208.
One SCSI cable is included and must be specified on the initial plant
order. See "No Charge Specify Codes" section.
