IBM's 3490E Model F Tape Subsystems offer full function 3490E tape performance
and compatibility at an economical price.
Highlights
- Read/Write 36-track tape, read 18-track.
- 10 cartridge Automatic Cartridge Facility (ACF) providing up to 24GB
of unattended storage with 3:1 compression.
- ESCON attachment with optional controller feature on the 3490 FC0.
- The IBM 3490E Model F11 is intended for use in backup, archiving files,
off-site data storage for disaster recovery and data exchange with other
systems.
- The IBM 3490E Model F11 is rack-mountable. Up to four 3490E Model
F11s can be installed in the 3490E Model FC0 Rack. An optional control
unit is available on the FC0 rack which allows the F11 drive to be attached
to ESCON systems.
- The ten cartridge autoloader on the IBM 3490E Model F11 automatically
loads and unloads cartridges as they are filled, improving efficiency
by reducing operator handling.
Reliable and Efficient
The IBM 3490-F11 is designed to provide outstanding tape subsystem performance,
high cartridge capacity, high reliability, and operational efficiency
while allowing for remote tape operations.
High Capacity
Using a 36-track head while reading or writing 18 tracks bi-directionally,
the 3490E-F11 doubles the capacity of a base IBM Cartridge System Tape
and virtually eliminates rewind time for a full cartridge.
The F11 Model comes standard with a 10-cartridge auto loader.
Speedy Data Transfer
Using the Improved Data Recording Capability (IDRC) and a SCSI interface,
effective data throughput can be as high as 6.8 MB/sec. The SCSI-2 attachment
gives users the potential for higher effective throughput than what is
currently provided by parallel channel attachment.
Enhanced Reliability
Major design enhancements for the 3490E F Models improve mechanical and
data reliability. Tape path enhancements, advanced electronic packaging
and circuit technology, along with enhanced control unit error recovery
procedures, help make the 3490E F Models extremely reliable tape subsystems
for the S/390, SP, AS/400, and RS/6000.
