The IBM 2104 Expandable Storage Plus (Exp Plus) disk enclosure provides
low-cost disk storage for RS/6000 or pSeries servers, depending upon the
model.
The IBM 2104 Model DS4 is a 19-inch rack-mountable enclosure for use
in single and multiple server configurations with 14 drive bays, 2.05
TB maximum capacity, and up to 2 Ultra320 SCSI interface/ports.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Accommodates up to fourteen hot-swappable SCSI Ultra320 drives
- Provides over two TB of storage capacity per enclosure
- Supports combinations of 36, 73, and 146 GB/10K rpm, and 36 and 73
GB/15K rpm disk drives
- Provides throughput up to 320 MB per second
- Offers options for redundant power and -48 V dc power
The IBM TotalStorage Expandable Storage Plus (EXP Plus 320) disk enclosures
provide support for the latest Small Computer System Interface (SCSI)
Ultra320 technology disk drives for pSeries Servers. EXP Plus 320 offers
increased performance, as compared to prior EXP Plus models, with affordable
prices for direct attach SCSI storage needs in both RAID or non-RAID protected
configurations using the complementary pSeries host adapters. The EXP
Plus 320 accommodates up to fourteen, hot-swappable IBM U320 disk drives
providing over two terabytes (TB) of storage capacity per enclosure. When
attached to the pSeries Ultra320 SCSI host adapter, the EXP Plus 320 provides
throughput of up to 320 MB per second. Multiple configurations of the
EXP Plus 320 are possible to support varied requirements:
- Single host attachment for large capacity needs, up to fourteen disk
drives
- Dual host attachment with a single SCSI bus for nonconcurrent, high
availability needs with high availability cluster multi-processing (HACMP)
failover
- Dual host attachment with two SCSI buses, each bus with up to seven
disk drives
There are two models of the EXP Plus 320:
- The TS4 Model, which is a deskside, self-contained, tower enclosure
- The DS4 Model, which is a 19-inch rack-mountable enclosure, ideal
for use in single and multiple server configurations.
Each model provides the option for a second power supply providing for
redundant power and dual power source configurations. The DS4 model also
has the option for -48 V dc power supplies suitable in Telco industry
environments.
IBM's TotalStorage Expandable Storage Plus 320 (EXP Plus 320) is designed
to help address storage needs of pSeries server environments that would
benefit from:
- Direct-attached, stand-alone storage for a single server
- Rack-mounted, direct-attached storage for multiple servers
- The latest in SCSI high performance disk technology
The EXP Plus 320 is designed to offer:
- Excellent performance at an attractive price
- High availability when combined with host-based RAID adapters
- Enclosure services to report disk enclosure problems to the server
The DS4 and TS4 Models support up to fourteen Ultra320 SCSI 10K and 15K
rpm disk drives, with 10K capacities of 36.4, 73.4, and 146.8 GBs and
15K options at 36.4 and 73.4 GBs. Within the EXP Plus 320 enclosure, these
various capacities and speed drives can be mixed to best address your
specific storage needs. Performance of the DS4 and TS4 Models can reach
up to 320 MB per second (Ultra320) synchronized data transfer speeds when
attached to an Ultra320 host adapter. Ultra 3 and Ultra 2 SCSI adapters
are also supported, with the EXP Plus 320 operating at the performance
level of the attached host adapter. When connected to a supported pSeries
SCSI RAID host adapter, increased data protection and higher performance
is possible.
A number of SCSI bus configurations are supported by these EXP Plus 320
models. When attached to a single host system, up to fourteen disk drives
can be configured per host adapter SCSI port in each EXP Plus 320 enclosure
to meet large capacity requirements. In dual host environments that require
the optional Second U320 Port feature (#2642) be installed, the EXP Plus
320 can be configured as two separate SCSI buses, each bus supporting
up to seven disk drives. Each bus is attached to two independent host
connections. The third option is in high-availability dual-host clustered
configurations utilizing HACMP for AIX, where the two host ports (requires
feature number 2642) on the EXP Plus 320 are each connected to the clustered
hosts on a single SCSI bus, and up to 12 disk drives enable nonconcurrent
usage with failover support.
The EXP Plus 320 has several options for power. The simplest uses a single
AC power supply (#3430) with a fan unit (#3499). For dual redundant power
supplies and ability to attach to two power sources, two AC power supplies
(#3430) can be ordered. In Telco industry environments where -48 V dc
is required, you can configure the DS4 Model with one DC power supply
(#3448) and a fan unit (#3499), or for redundancy, two DC power supplies
(#3448).
The EXP Plus 320 Model DS4 can be mounted in one of several pSeries racks,
including the 7014-T00 and 7014-T42. The Model TS4 is a free-standing
tower enclosure.
