The IBM 2104 Expandable Storage Plus (Exp Plus) disk enclosure provides
low-cost disk storage for RS/6000 or pSeries servers, depending upon the
model.
The IBM 2104 Model TU3 is a tower (stand alone) model with 14 disk drive
bays, 1,027 GB maximum capacity, and up to 2 Ultra3 SCSI interface/ports.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Accommodate up to 14, high-performance, hot-swappable, SCSI drives
- Provide up to 1,027.6 GB capacity with a combination of 9.1, 18.2,
36.4 and 73.4 GB disk drives
- Features up to 160 MB/second synchronous data throughput when attached
to an Ultra3 adapter -- twice as fast as previous models
Support a variety of adapters and native ports on pSeries and RS/6000
systems within single or two-host (single or split-bus) configura IBM's
Expandable Storage Plus (Exp Plus) disk enclosure line now provides greater
capacity, more connectivity options (including Ultra3 LVD), and higher
performance -- all at an affordable price. If you rely on IBM eServer
pSeries and RS/6000 servers and require external SCSI disk capacity, this
may be the disk enclosure you've been waiting for.
High Capacity and Performance
- Accommodates up to 14 hot-swappable, IBM Ultra3 (LVD) drives
- Provides up to 1,027.6 GB capacity with a combination of 9.1, 18.2,
36.4 and 73.4GB disk drives
- Performs at speeds of up to 160 MB/sec when attached to an Ultra3
host adapter or system port, or up to 80 MB/sec when attached to an
Ultra2 host adapter or system port. Ultra and Fast/Wide speeds are also
supported
- Reports problems to your server(s) at customer-selectable intervals
using SCSI Enclosure Services
- For Telco customers, a -48 V DC power supply option is available
Multiple Configurations for Varied Requirements
- Single Host: Up to 14 disk drives to meet large capacity requirements
- Two Host, Single Bus: Up to 12 drives for non-concurrent usage --
providing HACMP server failover support (with PCI Dual Channel Ultra2
SCSI Adapter # 6205)
- Two Host, Dual Bus: Each bus supports up to seven drives
- Combine with the IBM PCI, 4-channel, Ultra SCSI RAID adapter for
high performance and data protection
The DU3 model is designed to be rack mounted and is ideal for use with
multiple servers, while the TU3 is a stand-alone tower perfect for single
server storage. Both come with your choice of a redundant power source
or a cooling fan.
IBM's Expandable Storage Plus (Exp Plus) is designed to meet the needs
of many different types of customers, including those customers who want:
- Stand-alone storage for a single server
- Rack-mounted storage for several servers
- To use SCSI technology as the connectivity option
Exp Plus provides the following at an attractive price:
- Excellent performance
- High availability (when combined with a RAID-based host bus adapter)
- Enclosure services to ensure that problems are reported to the server
(at customer-selectable intervals)
The TU3 model supports up to 14 of IBM's latest 10K 9.1, 18.2, 36.4 and
73.4 GB Ultra3 SCSI disk drives. These drives can be mixed together in
the same enclosure. When connected to a RAID host bus adapter, such as
the Ultra3 SCSI RAID Adapter, data protection and high performance are
possible.
Performance of the TU3 model can reach up to 160 MB/sec (Ultra3) synchronized
data transfer speeds when attached to an Ultra3 host adapter or system
port. These models will operate at up to 80 MB/sec when attached to Ultra2
hosts. Ultra and Fast Wide speeds are also supported.
A number of SCSI bus configurations are supported by the Exp Plus TU3
model. When attached to a single host system, up to 14 disk drives can
be configured in an Exp Plus to meet large capacity requirements.
In a dual host environment (using feature number 2635), the SCSI bus
can also be configured as two separate buses, each supporting up to 7
disk drives attached to two independent host connections.
Exp Plus uses either a single AC power supply and a fan unit, or dual
AC power supplies for redundancy. For telco customers, -48V DC power supplies
can be selected in place of AC supplies. The -48 V DC power supply is
available on the drawer model (2104-DU3) only. The Exp Plus can be mounted
into one of several racks, including the 7104-S00, 7014-T00, 7014-T42,
7015-R00, and the 2101-100. A tower (stand-alone model TU3) option is
available as well. The TU3 model implements SCSI Enclosure Services (SES).
Using 73.4 GB disk drives, Exp Plus can support up to 1,027.6 GB of unprotected
disk storage. If you use RAID technology with the Exp Plus models, you
can benefit from increased data protection. However, RAID technology requires
increased space (depending on the RAID level you select).
Hardware Requirements
The IBM Expandable Storage Plus attaches to RS/6000 servers with the
following adapters:
- PCI 3-Channel Ultra2 SCSI RAID Adapter (#2494)
- PCI 4-Channel Ultra3 SCSI RAID Adapter (#2498)
- PCI Dual Channel Ultra3 SCSI Adapter (#6203)
- PCI Dual Channel Ultra2 SCSI Adapter (#6205)
- PCI Single Ended Ultra SCSI Adapter (#6206)
- PCI SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Single Ended Adapter (#6208)
