The IBM 4214 is a multi-function, impact serial matrix bidirectional
printer for attachment to various control units or processing units. It
prints at a maximum of 200 characters per second (cps) with data processing
print quality and 50 cps (maximum) with near-letter quality.
Model Abstract 4214-002
The 4214 Model 002 attaches to the S/36 (5360, 5362, and 5364) and S/38
(5381 and 5382). For the S/36, attachment is similar to 5250 Information
Display System devices. See "IBM 5250 Information Display System
Planning and Site Preparation Guide" (GA21-9337) for cabling information.
For the S/38, attachment is via the work station controller features on
the 5381 and 5382 machines. For remote printing in a communications environment
on the S/36 (5360, 5362, and 5364) and S/38 (5381 and 5382), the 4214
may be attached to the 5294 or 5394 Remote Control Unit. The 4214 Model
002 is connected to the S/36, S/38, 5294, or 5394 via twinaxial cable
or via the IBM Cabling System. It can also be connected to the S/36 and
S/38 via telephone twisted-pair cable in the certain geographies
